LISTEN: Mourinho ‘sad and happy’ Schneiderlin is leaving Man United for Everton

first_imgJose Mourinho has revealed he is both ‘sad and happy’ Morgan Schneiderlin is set to leave Manchester United on a permanent basis. It was announced on Tuesday evening that Everton have agreed a £22 million fee with the Red Devils to sign the French midfielder, and a transfer should be formalised in the coming days with just personal terms to agree. The 27-year-old midfielder has played just three Premier League matches this season, and it has been clear since Mourinho’s arrival over the summer that he would not get a look in.And although their relationship has seemed frosty at the best of times, the Portuguese insists he is sorry to lose Schneiderlin – even though it’s the best thing for the Frenchman’s career.Mourinho said: “I’m sorry to lose him, but I’m happy for him to be happy to play every match, to be important [at Everton].“So, I’m sad and happy at the same time.”Mourinho was speaking in the aftermath of United’s EFL Cup semi-final first leg win over Hull City.Goals from Juan Mata and Marouane Fellaini put the Red Devils in total control of the two-legged tie, and the 53-year-old was delighted with the latter’s impact – especially considering the recent negative reception the Belgian has received at Old Trafford.Mourinho added: “We have a very good relationship, and he knows that I consider him a very important player for us.“For him, we can’t forget he was booed here a couple of weeks ago, and to score the second goal and change that empathy with the fans is important for the player.”last_img read more
