California’s utility-scale solar generation hits new peak of 4.8 GW

first_imgCalifornia’s utility-scale solar generation hits new peak of 4.8 GWPeak solar generation had come near 4.8 GW on at least three other occasions during the summer prior to the August 15th, record. This peak generation comes as solar PV is meeting less demand overall in late summer. August 18, 2014 pv magazine Manufacturing Markets Markets & Policy Share The California grid hit a new peak generation record for utility-scale solar PV and CSP of 4.813 GW at 12:03 PM on August 15, according to data released by the California Independent System Operator (ISO).Peak utility-scale solar generation had come near 4.8 GW on at least three other occasions this summer: On August 8th, July 22nd, and June 1st.These figures do not represent the full contributions of solar PV, as the California ISO does not include “behind the meter” distributed solar in its figures. According to Greentech Media, California had another 2.6 GW of distributed solar at the end of the first quarter of 2014.Based on the 4.813 GW figure, PV and CSP peaked at around 14% of demand. If the state’s distributed solar resources were counted, this number would be higher.Popular content The Hydrogen Stream: 20 MW green hydrogen plant in Finland, two Australian projects move forward Sergio Matalucci 20 April 2021 pv-magazine.com Storegga, Shell and Harbour Energy want to set up a 20 MW blue hydrogen production facility in the U.K. Australia’s Origin Energy wants to build a hy… Enabling aluminum in batteries Mark Hutchins 27 April 2021 pv-magazine.com Scientists in South Korea and the UK demonstrated a new cathode material for an aluminum-ion battery, which achieved impressive results in both speci… ITRPV: Large formats are here to stay Mark Hutchins 29 April 2021 pv-magazine.com The 2021 edition of the International Technology Roadmap for Photovoltaics (ITRPV) was published today by German engineering association VDMA.
