HED Cycling has given us one more option for turning our bike into a shadow warrior with their new Jet Black and Ardennes Black road wheels. Not only to they get a new black anodized alloy outer rim, but the brake track gets a surface machining called Turbine Braking Technology. The result is a stealthy look with a claimed big improvement in stopping power. By a factor of five, according to their testing. That means 25% shorter stopping distance in good, dry conditions, and a whopping 70% shorter stopping distance in wet weather. All with better consistency, too. They use HED’s 25mm wide clincher design that’s road tubeless ready, and they still use standard alloy rim brake pads… HEDcycling.com The new Black series wheels replace their top level FR series. The weights are the same as their Plus series wheels, which should put them at 1492g for the Ardennes Black and 1,734g for the Jet 60 Black with the carbon faring. The groove pattern is directional, so the front wheel will need to be installed in the right direction (and the tire on in the proper direction if necessary).Brake pad wear will be a little faster than normal. They get blacked out versions of the carbon Sonic hubs with Sapim spokes. Prices are $1,500 for the Ardennes and $2,000 for the Jet. That’s about $100 more than the standard versions were. For years, HED has offered a GT3 tri-spoke full carbon tubular front wheel and a full disc rear. Now, they’ve got a matching three pronged GT3 for the rear, too.UPDATE: Got the tech info, here it is:700c tubular only$1,600 rear wheel, $1,500 front830g (670g for the front)26.5mm rim width46.5mm rim depth250lb rider weight limit

Star Files Suzanne Vega(Photo: Stephen Lovekin/Getty Images) Award-winning singer-songwriter Suzanne Vega has signed on to appear in the new off-Broadway musical Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice based on the Oscar-nominated 1970 film. Vega replaces the previously announced Tony winner Duncan Sheik, who is the composer of the musical’s score but will no longer appear in the cast.”I’m very excited for the upcoming production of Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice with The New Group,” said Sheik. “It turns out that being in the cast on top of being composer and co-lyricist of a new musical is a lot to chew, so I have decided to focus on the latter. I’m thrilled that my friend and longtime collaborator Suzanne Vega will be stepping into the role. She joins an amazing cast and creative team and I hope as many people get to enjoy this show as possible.”Best known for her folk-inspired music, including the notable song “Tom’s Diner,” Vega’s career has spanned more than 30 years. Her prior stage work includes contributing music to Broadway’s Tupac musical Holler If Ya Hear Me and crafting music to the off-Broadway play Carson McCullers Talks About Love, which netted her a 2012 Drama Desk nomination. Vega’s popular music contributions have earned her Grammy and MTV Video Music Awards.Vega joins a previously announced company of stars that includes Tony nominee Jennifer Damiano as Carol, Michael Zegen as Ted, Joél Pérez as Bob and Ana Nogueira as Alice. With music/lyrics by Sheik, additional lyrics by Amanda Green and a book by Jonathan Marc Sherman, Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice is a bittersweet comic take on the sexual revolution in which the suavely conventional lives of two successful young couples, all friends, are both stirred and shaken when they open their minds to the changing attitudes around them.Scott Elliott will direct and Kelly Devine will choreograph the production, scheduled to run from January 16 through March 15 at the Pershing Square Signature Center.
