It also explains the perks that go with pre-ordering the book before the publication date on March 30. One is an exclusive video conference with Dr. Meyer, on April 24, where you can put your own questions to him: Photo: Stephen Meyer at the 2020 Dallas Conference on Science and Faith, by Chris Morgan.“Meyer skewers materialism,” “Meyer confirms a truth that the ideologues find too frightening even to consider,” “Clear, compelling, and entertaining to read,” “A truly superb analysis of the relevant evidence,” and my own favorite, “God will be pleased.” These are some of the raves that Stephen Meyer’s upcoming book, Return of the God Hypothesis, has received so far. Oh, and the book just got an endorsement from physicist and Nobel Laureate Brian Josephson at Cambridge University, who is persuaded that intelligent design is “valid science.” Dr. Josephson is one of 40 scientists who have joined Meyer in advancing the God hypothesis.
A few months ago, just before the COVID-19 shutdown, an Italian-American couple opened Viona’s Italian Bistro in downtown Overland Park. The restaurant, which serves Italian dishes from old family recipes, replaces Ambrosia Cafe at 7933 Marty St. Ambrosia Cafe closed last fall.Since opening the restaurant in February, Benny and Kika Morina have managed to grow their customer base, even with only deliveries and takeout orders.“We got lucky, and I guess we have to thank the community because there’s a lot of folks during that lockdown who supported us even more,” said Benny Morina. “We had people ordering pretty much every other day because they wanted to make sure we stay here and don’t go anywhere.Located at 7933 Marty St., the bistro replaces Ambrosia Cafe.“I think with their help and their commitment, that’s how we survived. Those two and a half months had been pretty tough.”Named after the couple’s oldest daughter, Viona, the restaurant offers fine dining with a casual atmosphere, though most orders are still curbside pickup. The dining area features paintings of Italian cities, a mural painted by a local artist and music from famous Italians and Italian-Americans.Tables are also spaced apart, and seating at the bar is not permitted for the time being. Employees are still required to wear masks. Customers can also dine outside on the patio. The menu specializes in southern Italian cuisine; pizza and lasagna are popular, but Morina said they’re becoming known for their seafood pasta dishes as well. All baked goods are made from scratch on site. Benny Morina does most of the cooking. The indoor dining area features a mural by a local artist, Benny Morina said.Born and raised in Palermo, Sicily, Benny said he modeled his cooking after his grandmother, who was a famous chef back home.“I wanted to pursue her dreams and have my own restaurant,” Morina said. The Morinas previously owned a restaurant in Texas before selling the business and moving with their three daughters to the Kansas City metro area a couple of years ago. They’ve had their eye on downtown Overland Park for some time before making the move to open the bistro.“We wanted to be here; we thought it’s going to be good for us, because of the clientele,” he said. “I’m a big fan of mom-and-pop shops. I think the more local places we have, the better it gets, because people are just tired of chain restaurants.”Hours of operation are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday.
Oil & Gas UK chief executive, Malcolm Webb, has officially opened the new Aberdeen offices of oil and gas consultancy Magma Products. Magma, which provides specialist offshore commissioning and start-up services, has grown from a business employing six people in 2011 to one with an 85-strong team today. It has moved from small city centre premises to its new offices at The Spires Business Park, just off Mugiemoss Road. They can accommodate around 60 people, with many Magma personnel based on site at client projects.Paul Rushton, managing director of Magma Products, said: “We’re delighted Malcolm Webb took time out of his busy schedule of looking after the interests of the oil and gas industry to visit Magma Products and find out more about us as a company.“We’ve found being a member of Oil & Gas UK a valuable asset for networking and advice as we look to continue to grow the business.”Paul is also the Magma representative on the Oil & Gas UK Contractor Council.Malcolm Webb said: “The opening of Magma Products’ new office reflects the growing demand for services provided by the UK’s flourishing oil and gas supply chain. With the engineering, fabrication and installation subsector alone worth over £11billion and the supply chain as a whole generating £27billion revenue a year, it is a real driver for economic growth, innovation and job creation. “I’m delighted to have been asked to officially open Magma’s new offices and to find out more about the business, meet the team and discover the plans for the company. I’m sure Magma will continue to go from strength to strength.”Magma, which invested more than £750,000 in the move to the new 4,000 sq ft offices, is currently looking to recruit around 20 engineers due to the prospect of securing further projects by the end of the year.Magma Products has carved out a niche in the area of commissioning and start-up, the process of introducing oil and gas to projects whereby checks, inspections, certification and tests are carried out on components and systems before handover to the operator or duty-holder.Additionally, Magma has developed a technology-led system to enhance safety and efficiency during key phases of offshore oil and gas production projects. The Completion Hand Over Management System (CHOMS) is a web-based tool designed to capture all completion and certification data for all parts of any individual project. The East Coast Golf Course Management Association (EGA) would like to announce that after serving for 5 years as Golf Chairman and Vice President of the Pattaya Sports Club, the EGA recently asked Joe Mooneyham if he would be interested in becoming the Expat Golf Ambassador for the EGA, and we are happy to report that he has accepted the role. Joe has previously been a tremendous asset to the EGA with the running of the Caddy Program/Championship. He has come to most of our qualifying tournaments and serves as an on course rules official and also helps with the scoring. We have seen these events grow every year and now have qualifying tournaments all over Thailand and the Championship has grown to include seven other Asian countries which now participate in the Champion’s tournament.Joe MooneyhamEverywhere we go, Joe has spread the word of Pattaya Sports Club and what they do to support local charities. Almost 2 years ago, Joe was asked if he would like to represent Thailand at a goodwill fun golf tournament located in Japan and he said yes. This event included business people from all over Thailand and Joe was the only foreigner to represent Thailand. This was a 4-day event and besides Japan, China, Taiwan & S. Korea also sent their representatives for this worthy event. Again Joe told everyone about the great golf courses we have in Thailand and especially the Eastern Seaboard. He told them why he had decided to retire in Pattaya and also about the Pattaya Sports Club.Because of this trip many people from these countries have come to Thailand and some have joined the Pattaya Sports Club. It should also be noted that Joe paid for all his expenses to attend this event, including his air fare. The EGA is proud to make this announcement and please note that all proceeds from the Chonburi Golf Festival and the Caddy Championship go to charity. The EGA appreciates the support the Pattaya Sports Club has given the EGA in the past and hopes it continues long into the future.Sincerely yoursMike Mesommonta – President East Coast Golf Course Management Association
